Each year, the comedians on America’s Got Talent just keep getting better and better. Lil Hunter Kelly is a 7-year-old comedy prodigy whose Season 16 audition will premiere tonight. He is the son of comedy great Gerald Kelly who will also be auditioning this season.
Hunter is only seven years old, but tells hilarious jokes like he’s been in the business for decades. Comedy runs deep in the Kelly family. Gerald has traveled all over the world with his comedy routine. He’s also appeared on shows like HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at the Apollo, and BET ComicView. The Kelly family did a radio interview with The Breakfast Club Power 105.1 in 2017 talking about their booming careers.
In 2018, Hunter and his brothers Isiah and Joshua went on a comedy tour with Gerald. Much like Hunter, his brothers also began their comedy careers at a very young age. Isiah performed on Showtime at the Apollo when he was 10 years old and Joshua is also following in the family’s footsteps with a comedy career of his own. Nothing beats the bond that they all share and the way they can joke about each other during their routines.
Though they are a part of a father and son comedy tour together, it appears that Hunter and Gerald will be auditioning separately for America’s Got Talent. Their auditions even made the cut to air during the huge Season 16 premiere tonight on NBC. A little competition might be brewing here between Hunter and Gerald!
You might recognize Hunter from one hilarious YouTube video that has solidified his career as a future comedy legend. Gerald recorded Hunter as he got himself into a sticky situation in 2017. Staring at the camera wearing Superman pajamas with a face full of Vaseline, Hunter declares that he was covered in “Basaline.” In the video, Gerald comments that it is a frequent occurrence for Hunter to get into a jar of Vaseline and rub it all over his face.

This funny clip caught the eye of television personality Rob Dyrdek. It was featured in an episode of MTV’s Ridiculousness in Season 10. The clip was then added to a compilation of the best clips on Ridiculousness featuring some of the world’s biggest hip hop stars that have been guests on the show.
This is just one of many adorable clips of Hunter that have made their way onto the internet. In another video in 2017, Hunter found a bottle of cocoa butter and decided to use a little too much to moisturize that day. Gerald recorded his son as he wiped the “Cocobuller” all over his arms.
Sorry, dad! Hunter’s favorite comedian is actually not his father. In a comedy bit that he has performed on tour, Hunter admitted that his favorite comedian is Kevin Hart because he is also funny and short just like him. Hunter even jokes that he might actually be taller than Hart. We will not be shocked if he tells this dynamite joke on America’s Got Talent tonight.
The interesting thing is, his father actually met Hart and re-posted an Instagram picture with him in 2020. That’s not the only celebrity that Gerald has met throughout his career. He has also rubbed elbows with Floyd Mayweather, The Voice coach John Legend, and comedian Deray Davis.
Hunter and Gerald are both ready to take over America’s Got Talent with their auditions. When it comes to comedy, judge Heidi Klum is not always the easiest to impress, but when she sees Hunter’s dimples, she will probably fall in love with his act.
